You can’t help but be optimistic during these recessionary times when you look at the Loudoun business community. During the ten year period from 1998 to 2008 employment at companies in Loudoun County experienced huge growth. The number of jobs in the county doubled during this time span and more than 66,000 new jobs were created. CNN Money recently ranked Loudoun County #4 in job growth over the last eight years. In 2008 Loudoun added 3,630 new jobs. This was more than any other local Northern Virginia jurisdiction, including neighboring Fairfax County. Loudoun’s unemployment rate is 4.6% (August 2009) as compared to U.S. unemployment at 9.6%
With the significant growth of Dulles International Airport and a new metro line to the airport, we can expect more growth by current Loudoun businesses and at the very least more attention from companies outside of the state as well as internationally.
I’m very hopeful for the future of business in Loudoun County and how it will translate to the financial security for our communities in the eastern and western parts of the county.
My optimism is based upon fact. Read more about what the Loudoun business community can expect in the next couple of years by visiting biz.Loudoun.gov. You may be optimist like me, and if there was ever a time to be optimistic…
